Drone Night in Canada - Training In Compliance with Transport Canada

If you've been flying a drone in Canada over the past few years, you should have noticed that the regulations have been changing all around you.  Whether you're flying a drone for fun, or for work or research, the regulations are in a constant state of flux.

What are the new drone regulations in Canada?

On 21 Dec 2016, Transport Canada released a new set of regulations for commercial UAV operations (that is, flying a drone for work or research) under an Exemption from an SFOC (Special Flight Operations Certificate).  "The Exemption" is a set of 61 conditions that must be met in order to legally operate your drone commercially in Canada.  If one of the conditions is not met, your operation will not be considered legal, and you may be subject to a hefty fine.  Also, if anything were to go wrong whilst you were not in compliance, like a flyaway where your drone caused damage to another person or property, your insurance wouldn't cover you either!

In March, new regulations were put in place for recreational use of drones, limiting flights to a pretty tight set of conditions.  You can find more information about these regulations here.

Finally, in July 2017, Transport Canada released a new set of proposed regulation changes that were brought forward, and subject to a 90-day review period, where questions, comments, and concerns can be brought forward for consideration.  The new regulations could be set in stone before the end of 2017.

Where can I find UAV Ground School training in Canada?

With such a changing dronescape in Canada, it can be difficult to piece together everything that one would need in order to operate a drone safely and legally in Canada.  That is why we put together a great course that covers everything you need to know, and more!  The M3 Aerial Productions ground school course if offered across Canada, and is one of the only UAV Ground School courses in Canada to be offered for University credit

Our upcoming courses in August 2017 are as follows:

Winnipeg - 19-20 Aug
Regina - 22-23 Aug
Saskatoon - 25-26 Aug

We will also be running courses in Edmonton, Calgary, and Red Deer, as well as Toronto, Guelph, Ottawa, Charlottetown, Halifax, and Fredericton over the next several months.
