$100 Online UAV Ground School INTRO

This course is for people interested in becoming UAV pilots, but does not include any instructor-led content.  It is only the online portion of our UAV Ground School.

This course is designed to:

Winter Flight 1.JPG
  • Educate the pilot/operator about aviation principles and knowledge requirements for pilots of unmanned air vehicle systems
  • Provide you with the requirements you need to pass an exam in any of the ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) states that currently require applicants to write standardized UAV tests.
  • Fulfill PART 1 (online study) of our UAV Ground School program.  After completing this portion, you may decide to continue with your training and register for either our LIVE Webinar UAV Ground School, or our In-Person UAV Ground School Classes.  Either way, you will receive a discount of $100 from the next course's registration cost if you have already completed the Ground School Intro.

This course will not provide you with an M3 Aerial Certificate of Completion of UAV Ground School as you must also complete the instructor-led portion.  For students taking this course from outside of Canada, we recommend that you also take the Webinar training, and any students within Canada are required to complete the instructor-led component as well in order to satisfy the Transport Canada requirements.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IS AN SFOC, AND DO I NEED ONE?

It is a Special Flight Operations Certificate, a document issued by Transport Canada which grants you permission to fly a UAV for commercial purposes.  Learn more about the SFOC at the Transport Canada website

If you live in the United States, you will most likely be required to apply for a Part 107 waiver for UAS operations.

If you live in Mexico, Brazil, Russia, United Kingdom (or any other ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) state), you can use the information in this course to help you obtain your flight certification, though we also recommend you take our LIVE Webinar UAV Ground School to prepare adequately for a career in UAV Operations.

IS THIS COURSE TRANSPORT CANADA APPROVED?

M3 Aerial Productions are one of only a handful of registered training organizations in Canada that are on the list of Compliant Trainers at Transport Canada.  Our courses meet the requirement both of Staff Instruction (SI) No. 623-001, and TP15263.

This $100 UAV Ground School Intro is only Part 1 of our complete program, and, though it is valuable in providing you with information to complete a certification exam, we don't issue a Certificate of Completion until you have completed Part 2 - either our LIVE Webinar UAV Ground School or our in-person UAV Ground School which is currently being offered in two Canadian universities.

When you finish our complete program, we provide you with a Certificate of Completion of UAV Ground School which you may cite on your SFOC application to get approval for commercial UAV operations.

IS THIS COURSE APPLICABLE OUTSIDE OF CANADA?

Yes!  Our course will not only provide you with valuable information to help you run a high quality UAV operation, but the knowledge you will gain will allow you to pass any entrance commercial UAV examinations in any of the 191 ICAO (International Civial Aviaition Organization) states around the world!

HOW DO I TAKE THE EXAM?

When you complete both portions of the course - PART 1: The Online Training Package (takes 20-30 hours to complete) as well as PART 2: The LIVE Webinar UAV Ground School (takes 16 hours spread over four 4-hour sessions from the comfort of your own home!).

IS THIS COURSE LEGITIMATE?

Our course is currently being offered as third-year credit courses in two Canadian universities (Brandon University and the University of Manitoba).  We are the only course in Canada to be offered for university credit at multiple institutions.  Our Certificate of Completion of UAV Ground School is highly regarded by Transport Canada, as we have helped hundreds of individuals and companies get their UAV pilot certifications.

DO YOU OFFER FLIGHT TRAINING ON UAV SYSTEMS?

Yes, if you are able to attend our Flight Training events.  You must have completed a UAV Pilot Ground School in order to be able to participate in Flight Training.  You'll learn how to program autonomous mapping missions, emergency flight maneuvers, basic aerial photography skills, maintenance procedures, data transferring methods, and much more!  Check out our Flight Training section for more information!

HOW OFTEN DOES THE COURSE RUN?

You can register for the $100 Online UAV Ground School Intro any time, and complete it on your own time within a 1 year period of registering.  Any accounts that have not completed the course after 1 year may be subject to deletion (don't worry, we'll contact you first!)

The LIVE Webinar UAV Ground School course runs 3x a week.  When you sign up, we will send you a "Doodle Scheduling Planner" link where you will be able to coordinate the days when you can attend sessions.  You could complete the course in as soon as 2 weeks, or as long as it takes you to fit it into your schedule.  We're easy like that!

IS THIS TRAINING MANDATORY?

Yes, in Canada it is.  You must complete UAV Ground School training from a compliant UAV Ground School in order to operate a UAV commercially either under the exemption rules or with an SFOC.

In other countries the training part might not be mandatory, but you may be required to write, and pass a standards test which this course will prepare you to write.
